The History - Stav Gjestegård- ANNO 1863

The Skedsmo County Jail was established in 1863. The prison consisted of 35 solitary cells, 6 collective cells and several offices. The Skedsmo County Jail was discontinued April 1st, 1904.

Akershus County took over the responsibility for the building in 1923. The purpose was to use the facilities as a rest home for mentally ill women.

In 1975 the rest home was discontinued, and the jail was uninhabited until 1979.

In 1979 private hands took over, and the facilities were rehabilitated to be used as a hotel. The owners focused on the genuine look. Skjetten hotell had 38 rooms. 24 rooms were rehabilitated prison cells with the small peek opening on original cell doors, TV, mini refrigerators, shower/tub.

May 2003 the hotel`s name changed to Stav Gjestegård - Kasjotten A/S. The owners made the old prison a modern Bed & Breakfast hotel, with the atmosphere of history back to the last century.

We hope you will enjoy your stay.
